Honey bees, signifying immortality and resurrection, have often been used as royal emblems and incorporated into ancient medicines. The honey bee was widely believed to be a source of divine nourishment. “Telling the bees” was a custom in England, in which bees would be told of important events in their keeper’s lives, such as births, marriages, or departures and returns in the household and was a way to relay messages to friends and relatives who had died.
