I know, I know ~ its a statement, its sad, its climate change… again. But truthfully, I can’t stop thinking about the creatures that are losing their shells due to ocean acidification and the impact that will eventually make on the entire world. These beautiful abalone shell ‘statement’ earrings, remind me to do my part so the earth will still be a nice place for my kids.
So this is what I am working on this summer for the enamel collection ~ painterly, colorful jewelry in glass enamel. I have designed a new sterling silver (or gold filled) ear wire and lots of new shapes. More to come!
2016 on the Chinese calendar is a year of the Monkey, starting from February 8 and ending on January 27, 2017. My son Ari is a Monkey (always ready to help others; compassionate, with strong self-esteem, but stubborn) and he helped me put together these earring combinations to celebrate! Hóunián dàjí (Lots of luck for this Monkey year).
I am really excited about the designs, inpired by Aboriginal art, that embellish the new cuff bracelets, earrings and necklaces in this collections I call ‘dreamings’. Textured created with dots and lines, simple and elegant!
Working with metal clay is an exciting way to sculpt and design beautiful three dimensional artworks with gorgeous textures. Precious metal clay was developed in Japan in the early 90’s by metallurgist Masaki Morikawa. The ‘clay’ comes as a powder which is mixed with water as needed to make clay, and comes in gold, silver, copper and bronze, suspended in an organic binder that burns away in a kiln when fired at about 1500 degrees. Here I have mixed the sculpted bronze pieces with gemstones.
